Karunya is a palliative care initiative dedicated to enhance the quality of life of individuals facing life-limiting illnesses and providing vital support to their families across various communities. In response to the escalating demand for palliative services, particularly in regions like India grappling with a rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), Karunya emerges as a beacon of compassionate care. Karunya harnesses the holistic approach of traditional systems of medicine to address the multifaceted challenges encountered by palliative patients. Through its comprehensive framework, Karunya aims not only to alleviate physical distress but also to provide invaluable psychosocial support, promote awareness, and facilitate community engagement. By fostering partnerships with healthcare professionals, community leaders, and caregivers, Karunya strives to build a network of support that extends far beyond medical treatment alone. At its core, Karunya embodies a commitment to dignity, comfort, and empowerment for patients and their families, guided by a deep respect for individual values and preferences. AYURVIDYA

The Ministry of AYUSH initiated a Public Health Programme called ‘AYURVIDYA’ to promote a healthy lifestyle through AYUSH to schoolchildren. This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) aims to establish a structured approach to delivering school health services effectively and efficiently, ensuring the highest standards of care and safety. Objectives of the Programme includes ; to promote a healthy lifestyle among school children, to sensitize school children about the importance of personal hygiene and maintaining a clean and healthy environment, to establish and maintain medicinal plant garden on school premises, to educate school children about the importance of exercise and benefits of Yoga, and to conduct basic health screenings.

SUPRAJA

Location : The Women and Child Hospital, Poojappura under Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram; Government Ayurveda College, Thrippunithura; and Government Ayurveda College, Kannur. 

The SUPRAJA Project aims to provide comprehensive Ayurvedic healthcare to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and infants across Kerala, with a focus on improving maternal and neonatal health. By integrating Ayurvedic practices into antenatal and postnatal care, the project seeks to ensure fetal well-being, prevent complications, and reduce the incidence of operative deliveries. Its key objectives include enhancing the physical and mental health of both mothers and infants, promoting the birth of healthy babies, and minimizing the risk of abnormal puerperium. Additionally, the project strives to raise awareness about the benefits of Ayurvedic care during pregnancy and the postpartum period, offering a holistic approach to maternal and child health.

The SUPRAJA project is operational in three units which offer comprehensive Ayurvedic care, including dietary and lifestyle advice, yoga, pranayama, detailed examinations, and treatment for common complications. Key activities include setting up SUPRAJA clinics, conducting awareness sessions at Anganwadis and AYUSH health centers, organizing medical camps, and providing postnatal care. The project focuses on educating the community about the benefits of Ayurveda in antenatal and postnatal care, promoting practices like yoga, dietary modifications, and lifestyle changes.

VAYOMITRAM

Vayomitra program is designed to address the unique healthcare and social needs of senior citizens through AYUSH system of medicine. The program integrates traditional knowledge with modern healthcare strategies, focusing on preventive, promotive, and curative interventions to enhance the quality of life.

Project team consists of consultant, State Project Coordinator and District Project Coordinator. The program will be implemented at the panchayat level in each district. The Medical Officer of NPPMOMD is responsible for the activities of Vayomitra. Activities include formation of Local Committees, Neighbour Groups, Volunteer Programs, refreshing activities through Day Care Centres, Exercise and Yoga Sessions, Screening Camps, Preventive and Promotive Health Care Services, Health education etc.

NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT OF OSTEOARTHRITIS AND MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), including osteoarthritis, represent a significant health burden, impacting mobility and quality of life. The National Programme for Prevention and Management of Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Disorders (NPPMOMD) is an AYUSH Public Health Programme initiated by the Ministry of AYUSH, to address this challenge through a comprehensive, integrative approach leveraging AYUSH systems of medicine. This initiative aims to provide early diagnosis, preventive strategies, and integrated management of musculoskeletal disorders using AYUSH systems. The NPPMOMD also empower individuals through education and self-care practices. The program received an overwhelmingly positive response, with 99.46% of participants expressing their willingness to recommend AYUSH treatments to others.
