Quality Accreditation Programme under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM)

The National AYUSH Mission (NAM) aims to strengthen the AYUSH healthcare delivery system by enhancing the quality, safety, and facilities of AYUSH services across the State. Under this initiative, the Quality Accreditation Programme supports AYUSH institutions in achieving NABH Entry-Level Certification, and Kayakalp Award , ensuring standardization of care and continuous quality improvement.

Total 700 AHWCs across the State selected for NABH Entry level certification. These institutions are divided into four phases.

1.AYUSH Health & Wellness Centres (AHWC) – Phase I

The first phase of the AHWC Quality Accreditation Programme focused on enabling selected AYUSH HWCs to achieve NABH Entry-Level Certification under NAM.

Key Activities:

  • Baseline assessment and gap analysis
  • Capacity building and staff training
  • Development of SOPs, policies, and quality manuals
  • Mentoring and monitoring by trained nodal officers and facilitators
  • On-site visits, documentation support, and mock audits for compliance with NABH standards

2. AYUSH Health & Wellness Centres (AHWC) – Phase II

Building on the success of Phase I, 100 AHWCs selected in the Phase II expanded the initiative to a larger network of AHWCs across the state, with the goal of institutionalizing quality systems and achieving 100% certification of identified centres.

Key Activities:

  • Advanced and refresher training programmes
  • Continuous monitoring through digital tools
  • Peer learning and sharing of best practices
  • Baseline assessment and gap analysis
  • Capacity building and staff training
  • Development of SOPs, policies, and quality manuals
  • Mentoring and monitoring by trained nodal officers and facilitators
  • On-site visits, documentation support, and mock audits for compliance with NABH standards

3. AYUSH Hospital Certification Programme

6 AYUSH hospitals selected for NABH Entry-Level Certification, fostering a culture of evidence-based practice, patient safety, and organizational excellence.

Key Activities:

  • Institutional gap analysis and action planning
  • Policy and SOP development aligned with NABH AYUSH standards
  • Staff sensitization on documentation, infection control, and patient safety
  • Conduct of mock audits and corrective action reviews prior to final assessment

4. Kayakalp Award Programme

The Kayakalp Initiative, implemented alongside NAM, promotes cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control in public AYUSH healthcare facilities. The programme recognizes and rewards institutions maintaining exemplary standards in environmental and sanitation practices.

Evaluation Parameters:

  • Facility upkeep and maintenance
  • Biomedical waste management
  • Hygiene promotion, infection control, and eco-friendly practices
  • Innovation and sustainability in cleanliness efforts

Achievements (Kerala State Example)

  1. Phase I: 150 AHWCs successfully achieved NABH Entry-Level Certification
  2. Phase II: 100 additional AHWCs achieved NABH Certification
  3. AYUSH Hospital Accreditation: 6 AYUSH hospitals under preparation for NABH Entry-Level Certification
  4. Kayakalp Awards: 132 institutions recognized for excellence in cleanliness and hygiene
  5. NABH Implementation Handbook, Kayakalp Guidelines, Checklist, and Framework prepared for statewide standardization
